UPDATE! Stone House Creek Ranch will deliver the second round of our black Balancer steers of 2026 to Steve's Meat Market in DeSoto KS on April 7, 2026 to be cut into halves. These steers were pasture raised on grass and grain finished. They have been raised with very little stress and no added hormones.
When you place your order, we reserve one or more 1/2 steers for you (depending on the quantity you choose). Since weights vary by steer, the deposit you pay now is just $100. Once your actual order weight is known (by April 8, 2026), we let you know the final price and send you an invoice for the remainder minus your deposit of course. This amount will be paid by cash or check.
NOTE: We price our beef at $4.25 per pound of "hanging weight" which is on average about 375 pounds per 1/2 steer. You will pay the processing cost, $0.99 per pound of hanging weight and $75 per half, directly to the processor. 375 pounds x $4.25 is $1,593.75, 375 pounds x $0.99 is $378.79 plus $75 is $453.79 for processing, so a half that hangs at 375 pounds will cost a total of $2,047.54 plus tax on the processing. For those who have never bought hanging meat before: it is important to understand that the yield of meat will be less than the hanging weight.
Rather than growing our steers to a specific weight, we grow them until they appear finished. To us, this means they look full in the brisket area and across their back. In this way, we feel we are delivering the best product and reaching full potential.
